Midterm Exam Scope (Exams on April 1 and 2)

 

6^th Grade English Review Midterm Exam Semester 2

Date: Tuesday, April 1^st, 2025

 

Grammar: (30%)

Review Resource: Live English Grammar Units 10-13

1. Present Perfect Simple
2. Present Perfect Simple vs Past Simple The verb used to
3. Present Perfect Progressive
4. Can – Could – Be able to – May – Might – Shall

Literary Devices: (20%)

        Students will have to answer a series of questions identifying the genre, subgenre, author’s point of view, and author’s purpose.

 

60 New Vocabulary Words: (10%)

Review Resource: Journeys Vocabulary Worksheets for Lessons 16 – 21

Students will have to read sentences and fill in the blanks with the correct vocabulary word.

 

Reading (20%)

Students will have to answer ten comprehension questions based on a short given text.  Full sentence answers are required. There will also be questions for their stories in Journeys from this term (L16 – 21). Attention will be paid to understanding of the text, effort put forth in answering the questions, and quality of answers.

Creative Writing (20%)

Students will write a 3-5 paragraph fiction essay. Knowledge of literary devices discussed in class thus far will need to be demonstrated.  Topics will not be told beforehand.

Science

Review Resources – My Pals are Here Science Book 5B. Students will answer questions based on concepts and vocabulary from these three units:

Unit 20– Energy Conversion

Unit 21 – Light and Heat

Unit 22 – Electric circuits

 

Math

Students will solve math and word problems based on the following units in PRIME 6B.

Ch 9. Unit 1: Integers, Fractions and Decimals - Unit 2: Addition and subtraction of integers - Unit 3: Problem Solving

Ch 11. Unit 1: Finding Ratio – Unit 2: Equivalent Ratios – Unit 3: Ratio and Proportion – Unit 4: Problem Solving
